Autodesk expands, creates jobs

San Francisco mayor congratulates vfx software supplier

L.A. may be the capital of showbiz, but the Bay Area continues to supply a lot of the industry’s vfx prowess. In the latest indication of Socal’s reliance on Norcal expertise, San Francisco mayor Edwin M. Lee announced that 3D, design and entertainment software purveyor Autodesk has signed a lease expanding its presence by 36,000 square feet in downtown San Francisco.

Autodesk plans to add an additional 200 jobs over the next three to five years to its San Francisco office, a 40% increase in its workforce in the city.

“For the second time in less than six months I am happy to announce an expansion of Autodesk’s San Francisco office, which will bring new jobs and economic activity to downtown,” Lee said. “Tech companies, both big and small, are staying and growing in San Francisco, and I remain committed to ensuring that our City is a leading innovation center for the tech industry. I want to thank Autodesk CEO Carl Bass for his commitment and leadership in growing Autodesk’s significant presence in San Francisco.”

“Expanding in San Francisco is about more than just square feet,” said Bass. “It is about investing in our future and investing in this creative and innovative city. With our offices in the heart of downtown, we see our expansion playing an important role in attracting the best talent from around the Bay Area.”

This is the second expansion of Autodesk’s San Francisco offices in the last six months, bringing the company’s total presence to approximately 150,000 square feet at One Market Plaza. Today, 500 of Autodesk’s 7,000 employees are based in San Francisco.
