DreamWorks Trio Backs Wendy Greuel for L.A. Mayor

The Los Angeles mayoral campaign of City Controller Wendy Greuel today sent out an e-mail and fundraising pitch from Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, endorsing her and urging support for her candidacy.

It’s in no way a surprise: Greuel was an executive at DreamWorks from 1997 to 2002, before she was elected to the Los Angeles City Council. Given that the election isn’t until 2013, it underscores the jockeying that the crowded field of candidates are engaged in to line up influential supporters and fundraisers.

“Steven, Jeffrey and David understand that, as Mayor of Los Angeles, not only will I fight to ensure that Los Angeles remains the heart and soul of the entertainment industry but that I will also fight to ensure that Los Angeles remains a world class city of which all of us can be proud,” Greuel wrote.

The three cofounders of DreamWorks wrote, “We strongly believe Wendy has the right balance of experience and vision it will take to address the many challenges that face our city.” They included a link to Greuel’s campaign site for contributions.
