Event opens with 'Potiche,' closes with 'Eagle'

GLASGOW — The 7th Glasgow Film Festival will host the world premiere of David Mackenzie’s “You Instead” and the U.K. premiere of Kevin Macdonald’s Roman epic “The Eagle,” which both shot in Scotland.

Glasgow is one of the U.K.’s fastest-growing film festivals, with 30,000 ticket sales last year, placing it third behind London and near rival Edinburgh.

This year’s event opens with Francois Ozon’s “Potiche” and closes with “The Eagle.” More than 250 films will unspool across 15 venues.

Glaswegian graphic novelist Mark Miller, creator of “Kick-Ass” and “Wanted,” is curating a section celebrating Scotland’s contribution to comics, gaming and superheroes.

The fest’s main retrospective is devoted to the career of Meryl Streep.

Fest runs Feb. 17 to 27.
