Everett joins play that started at Chicester

Rupert Everett will return to the West End to play Professor Higgins in George Bernard Shaw’s “Pygmalion,” the play immortalized by tuner adaptation “My Fair Lady.”

The production, helmed and designed by Philip Prowse, originally ran at Chichester Festival Theater last summer. It opens May 25 at the Garrick Theater.

Everett will play the phonetics professor obsessed with teaching perfect English to a Cockney flowergirl, played by Kara Tointon in her West End debut. Tointon starred in the BBC soap “EastEnders” for four years and was the 2010 winner of BBC TV’s “Strictly Come Dancing.” They will be joined by Peter Eyre as Higgins’s sidekick Col. Pickering.
