Trio of Euro helmers contribute to Jeonju project

Straub, Denis, Guerin work on omnibus pic

SEOUL — Three European directors have been commissioned to participate in the Jeonju Digital Project 2011, the three-part digital omnibus pic commissioned by Korea’s Jeonju Film Festival.

French helmers Jean-Marie Straub and Claire Denis plus Spanish helmer Jose Luis Guerin will premiere the omnibus at the 12th Jeonju Film Festival, which runs April 28 to May 6.

Straub’s segment, “An Heir,” is a sequel to 1994 short “Lothringen!” that he co-directed with his late wife, Danièle Huillet. Based on the novel of Maurice Barres, it explores a dark period in French history set against a journey to Mont St. Odile, a religious shrine.

Denis is working on “Alibi for Aliba” about African colonialism.

Guerin’s “A Neighborhood Story” (working title) is about the suicide of a violinist who lived in his neighborhood.
