Exec tapped as CEO of media group Mecom
LONDON — Endemol topper Tom Toumazis has been tapped as CEO of European media group Mecom.
Toumazis, who joined Endemol from Disney to much fanfare in January 2009, is expected to start his new job mid-August.
Losing such a talented executive as Toumazis, currently Endemol’s chief commercial officer, is a blow for the highly leveraged “Big Brother” producer.
Toumazis was hired by Endemol to spearhead a new emphasis on distributing content. At Disney, where he spent eight years, he was in charge of program, new media and channel distribution in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada.
Mecom, which publishes newspapers in mainland Europe, was founded in 2000 by British journalist-turned-entrepreneur David Montgomery, who ankled in January following a boardroom battle.
