Both will air Stateside this year

MONTREAL — Starz Entertainment has bought a TV movie and a series for broadcast in the U.S. from Canuck producer Shaftesbury Films.

“Vacation With Derek” is a spin-off movie from the Shaftesbury-produced Disney Channel series “Life With Derek”; ‘tween series “Baxter” is about pals at a performing arts high school.

Both will air this year though Starz has yet to announce which channels will broadcast the shows.

“Vacation With Derek” is about siblings Derek (Michael Seater) and Casey (Ashley Leggat) who are forced to spend summer vacations with their hard-edged grandmother at her lakeside lodge. It aired on the Family Channel in Canada in June.

“Baxter,” which includes 13 half-hour episodes, is a drama about Baxter McNab (Evan Williams from “Degrassi: The Next Generation”) and his friends at the Northern Star School of the Arts. It premiered on the Family Channel in Canada in May.

Shaftesbury’s newest production is “Good Dog,” a half-hour comedy series created, written and directed by Ken Finkleman (“The Newsroom”). It will premiere on HBO Canada this spring.
