'Nader and Simin' won top prize at Berlin fest

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all North American rights to Asghar Farhadi’s Iranian drama “Nader and Simin, A Separation” from Memento Films Intl.

Pic won the Golden Bear at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. Farhadi won the director award for his previous film, “About Elly,” in 2009 at the Berlinale. “Nader and Simin” concerns the dissolution of a marriage, triggered when the wife tries to leave Iran, leading to a legal battle over the care of an elderly man.

Memento Films and Sony Pictures Classics last worked together on Palme d’Or winner “The Class.”
