ROME — Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Italia satcaster and Italian broadband operator Fastweb are bundling their services to win more customers, stepping up Sky’s competition with Silvio Berlusconi’s Mediaset Premium pay TV service.
Sky Italia’s 190 channels and Fastweb’s broadband Internet and landline services will be offered together at a discount in the Home Pack deal.
The deal has “a strategic and commercial value, because it enables both companies to offer high-quality services at an affordable price, and aims at increasing subscriber numbers,” the companies said in a joint statement.
The agreement extends a 2006 contract under which Sky Italia’s TV content was distributed on Fastweb’s Internet protocol TV network. Home Pack will be available beginning Feb. 14.
