Japan’s TBS network is bringing “Sasuke,” aired by NBC’s G4 as “American Ninja Warrior,” to Malaysia to promote physical fitness in a country where half the people under 30 are overweight.
TBS is teaming with Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports to stage a local version of the obstacle course competition show.
An estimated 70 to 100 contestants will take part in the three-day “Sasuke Malaysia” competish starting Friday in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur. It will be the main event in the “One Million Youth Gathering,” an annual government-sponsored youth fest. The show will feature a visit by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. Winner will take part in the 27th “Sasuke,” to be held in Japan this summer.
Launched in 1997, “Sasuke” has become a signature show for TBS, selling to 153 countries.
