Plea deal with feds for SAG member

DeSoto accused of uploading 'Swan' to file-sharing site

A member of the Screen Actors Guild has reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors after he was accused of uploading an award-season screener of “Black Swan” to the Pirate Bay file-sharing site.

In a filing with U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Wes DeSoto agreed to plead guilty to infringing a copyrighted work being prepared for commercial distribution. He agreed to pay restitution, and prosecutors agreed not to seek a prison term, meaning probation is likely. A sentencing date has not been set.

The FBI conducted a search of DeSoto’s apartment in April, seeking computer hard drives and other materials, on suspicion that he was the source of January uploads of screeners of “Black Swan,” “The King’s Speech,” “The Fighter” and other movies. The films were made available to SAG members on iTunes, and the FBI said that it used the source code on the screeners to trace them to DeSoto.
