PARK CITY — Participant Media has snapped up domestic rights to Iranian forbidden love pic “Circumstance,” helmed and penned by Maryam Keshavarz.
Pic is screening in the U.S. dramatic competish here at Sundance, and Participant is currently in discussions with several distribs for the pic.
Deal was negotiated by Jeff Ivers, Ricky Strauss and Jonathan King for Participant Media and Paradigm Motion Picture Finance Group repping the filmmakers.
Pic is produced by Keshavarz along with Karin Chien and Melissa M. Lee, with Christina Won serving as exec producer.
The story follows a wealthy Iranian family as they struggle to contain a teenager’s growing sexual rebellion and her brother’s dangerous obsession.
Participant prexy Ricky Strauss said the film was “the perfect vehicle to begin expanding our international outreach with foreign language storytelling.”
Deal is Participant’s second of the day in Park City: earlier today the outfit partnered with Magnolia Pictures to acquire domestic rights for New York Times docu “Page One.”
