MBC takes ‘Idol’ format to Middle East

Group reups for two additional seasons of 'Got Talent'

CANNES — FremantleMedia Enterprises has concluded what it described as “an unprecedented multi-year deal” with the Middle East’s MBC Group to license the “Idol” format.

Deal also gives MBC Group rights to the “Got Talent” format for an additional two seasons plus a three-year volume catalog deal.

MBC will produce three seasons of a Pan-Arabic “Idol” series.

The decision to license “Idol” was encouraged by the success of “Arabs Got Talent,” said FME.

The show bowed on MBC4 in January following auditions in more than 13 countries in the Middle East. — Steve Clarke
