PRAGUE — The Karlovy Vary Film Festival will honor Judi Dench with its Crystal Globe for contribution to world cinema.
Dench, who has won nine BAFTAs and one Academy Award, is likely to present some of her most lauded work, which includes “Tea With Mussolini,” “A Room With a View” and several James Bond pics.
Karlovy Vary’s past emphasis on honoring the classics continues this year with a screening of a newly restored print of Czech historic epic “Marketa Lazarova.”
Frantisek Vlacil’s pic, considered the country’s greatest film by many critics, has been languishing in the national film archive since its 1967 release. Vlacil won the fest’s Crystal Globe for contribution to cinema in 1998.
Fest, running July 1-9 in West Bohemia, Czech Republic, has announced little news on major guests other than jurors, which are to include Istvan Szabo as prexy of the grand prize competish. Fest is expected to release program details in June.
