Spanish TV producer Globomedia has joined the Newen Network, a group of Euro TV producers who get first-look options to acquire each other’s formats.The Newen Network was set up in February by Fabrice Larue’s media group Newen. It includes Herve Chabalier’s Capa, which specializes in docus and TV skeins; Sebastien Cauet’s Be Aware, a gameshow and factual entertainment producer; and Telfrance, the shingle behind French hit “Life’s So Sweet.” Larue said the network gives TV producers the “opportunity to grow by selling formats internationally and grow locally thanks to exclusive acquisitions of formats within the network, co-development of original formats with several partners and co-production of entertainment formats or international fictions.” He plans to recruit at least seven more independent producers for the network. Globomedia is considered Spain’s most successful creator of TV skeins. It is an affiliate of Imagina Group, the controlling shareholder of Spanish free-to-air TV channel La Sexta. “In an extremely competitive international market, this alliance with a major French production group will help us strengthen our position as one of the main international format producers and distributors,” Globomedia CEO Daniel Ecijas and Imagina Intl. Sales managing director Jose Huertas Le Douarec said in a joint statement.
