Distribution model is a first for Fuji

Tokyo — The Fuji TV network will release its biggest hit from last year, cop thriller “Bayside Shakedown 3,” simultaneously on DVD and as a download on iTunes on Feb. 2.

This is a first that may lead to other similar releases.

Released in July by Toho, “Bayside Shakedown 3″ took $89 million at the box office, making it the third highest-earning Japanese film of the year.

The DVD release of the pic, including a Blu-ray version, will cost from $48.66 to $176.71 while the iTunes downloads will be priced from $24.39 to $30.49.

Fuji also announced that the 13 pics it released in 2010 earned $447 million — or nearly one-third of the domestic B.O. The highest earner was Coast Guard thriller “Umizaru 3″ at $98 million.
