TV powerhouse appoints new head of gambling

LONDON — FremantleMedia has tapped a news head of gambling as it continues to diversify its revenue sources.

He is Simon Murphy, who has more than eight years experience in the gambling biz, having worked with online and mobile gambling outfits IGT WagerWorks and Million 2-1.

The move coincides with FremantleMedia integrating its gambling division into distribution arm FremantleMedia Enterprises.

The gambling division bowed in 2008 as part of FremantleMedia Ventures led by Ventures topper Paul Kanareck.

The company said the success of its gambling activities, allied to shows such as “The X Factor,” “The Price Is Right,” “Family Fortunes” and “Baywatch,” has encouraged it to beef up investment in this area.

Murphy will be responsible for Fremantle’s online, traditional and mobile gambling initiatives.
