Finland to get 'Voice,' 'Oscar' goes global

While the Mip TV mart in Cannes began winding down on Wednesday, international format sales continued to boost business.

Finnish production company Solar Television, part of France’s Banijay Group, announced it was partnering with John de Mol’s Dutch shingle Talpa to produce a version of the hit talent search format “The Voice of…” for Finnish broadcaster Nelonen.

Talpa developed and produced the format for RTL4 in the Netherlands. The show will air on NBC in the U.S. later this month.

Solar Television announced the appointment of Petteri Ahomaa as CEO. He will continue as an exec producer on primetime productions.

n Sundance Channel and MTVNHD, a Viacom Intl. Media Networks service dedicated to music, acquired the new HD music series “Studio in Session.”

Produced by Eagle Rock Entertainment and Pulse, the series showcases leading artists from both sides of the Atlantic, including the Strokes, Manic Street Preachers and Primal Scream.

n London-based family entertainment specialist Cake inked a slew of worldwide sales for “Oscar’s Oasis.”

A desert-set cartoon comedy for tykes 6-11 made by French animation studio TeamTO, Tuba Entertainment and Cake, “Oscar’s Oasis” sold to Cartoon Network Latin America, PT Media Nusantara Citra in Indonesia, Societe Radio-Canada, Russia’s 2×2 Channel, YLE in Finland, Turkey’s ATV, S4C Wales, SVT in Sweden, Ukraine’s QTV, MBC for the Middle East and SF DRS in Switzerland.

The quirky, nonverbal toon follows the adventures of Oscar the lizard as he tries to survive in the desert by finding water, shade, food and something to do.
