Hopes for a 2012 release date

BEIJING — Fresh from the success of “Aftershock” and “If You Are the One 2,” China’s most bankable helmer, Feng Xiaogang, is working on a disaster movie about a 1942 drought that killed 3 million people in Henan province.

As-yet-unnamed pic is an adaptation of Liu Zhenyun’s 1993 novel, “Remembering 1942.”

Feng’s long-term collaborators, Huayi Bros., will invest $23 million in the project, set for a summer 2012 release.

Earthquake epic “Aftershock” brought in $103 million at the box office last year.
