Endemol India is moving into features, have produced local versions of Endemol’s global reality TV formats.
First up will be “Traffic,” a Hindi-language remake of the Malayalam-language hit of the same name.
The original thriller, based on real-life incidents and directed by Rajesh Pillai, follows several intertwining stories set around a traffic signal in Kochi, Kerala. Pic, made on a budget of $500,000, was released in January and grossed more than $1.5 million.
Pillai will direct the Hindi version, which begins filming in July. Budget and cast were not disclosed.
Endemol India managing director Deepak Dhar said, “Work is in progress and it’s a proud moment for us to get full-on into Bollywood.”
In May 2010, Endemol India hired former Viacom 18 head of acquisitions and domestic distribution Aman Gill to lead its film business in a creative producer capacity.
