Disney Germany has inked a cooperative venture with Vodafone for the country’s first ABC TV on demand service.The VOD offering includes a broad selection of ABC Studios series, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Lost.” Service will be available to subscribers as part of Vodafone TV’s Lounge Package this month. Deal also includes Disney XD and Playhouse Disney, which can be received as part of Vodafone TV’s “Kiddies’ Package.”Disney XD is targeted at boys aged 6 to 14 and carries new Disney live-action series and movies, cartoon series, and comedy and sports skeins. Playhouse Disney is an ad-free pre-school TV channel. In addition, subscribers will have access to Disney film classics, a large variety of animated and Disney Channel movies, as well as current blockbusters like “Tangled” that will also be available on Vodafone TV from April 7. A large number of films and series on ABC TV on Demand will be available in HD and both in the English original and dubbed German versions. “ABC TV On Demand, as one of the first such services outside the U.S., is an important milestone in the course of the further development of our distribution channels in German-speaking regions,” said Tomas Arteaga, Disney’s general manager of media distribution for Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Vodafone TV launched in February and combines conventional satellite and analog cable reception via Vodafone-DSL. In addition to a large number of free TV stations, Vodafone TV also has pay TV channels on offer in four thematic packages, including feature film, series, documentaries and tyke fare.
