DC Entertainment taps publicity exec

Courtney Simmons named senior VP of PR

PR vet Courtney Simmons has been named senior VP of publicity for DC Entertainment at Warner Bros.

Based in Burbank, she’ll report to John Rood, exec VP of sales, marketing and business development.

Simmons will oversee media relations and internal communications for DC Entertainment and be responsible for developing and leading the PR strategy for the DC portfolio of characters, including franchises such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and the Flash, along with Mad magazine, Vertigo titles and other DC properties.

Simmons was previously VP of communications for Disney Interactive Media Group and a communications exec for Sony Online Entertainment. She also ran media relations and government affairs for the Legoland California theme park and for Six Flags’ Magic Mountain theme park in Los Angeles.

Warner took control of DC Comics and renamed it DC Entertainment in September 2009 as a way to better exploit DC’s stable of properties across various platforms, from movies and TV shows to videogames and mobile offerings. It announced last year that it was moving much of the company from Gotham to studio headquarters in Burbank.

Warner Bros. is in post-production on “Green Lantern,” with Ryan Reynolds starring as the ringed hero, for release next summer, and it’s in pre-production on the next Batman pic, “The Dark Knight Rises,” to be directed by Christopher Nolan, for release on July 20, 2012.
