Dealmakers Impact Report 2011: Lawyers

Wolf’s practice is evenly split between advising companies and doing finance transactions, and repping talent.

In the former arena, he’s made some of the biggest deals of the year, including the Hemisphere Capital Management tentpole deal across major studios that closed in August.

In the latter, “the more conventional area,” he handles top talent “mainly in comedy,” including longtime client Judd Apatow, as well as Steve Carell, Russell Brand and Nick Stoller, and many TV producers and showrunners.

KEY DEALS: Helped originate and orchestrate the $250 million Hemisphere co-financing deal with Sony and Paramount for its initial slate of “big, four-quadrant commercial pictures,” including “The Smurfs” (a $560 million global hit), “Tintin,” and the upcoming “World War Z” and “Men in Black III.”

Because of the ongoing Wall Street uncertainty, Wolf based the deal around “two strategic investors — foreign distributors from major territories who wanted to own equity in the company and also get distribution rights.”

Wolf also restructured Apatow’s directing and producing deal at Universal.

SPARE TIME: Kids’ sports and ballet.

TOP CAUSE: Children’s Cancer Research Fund
