Breaking Glass picks up ‘Gigola’

U.S. distrib takes rights to Laure Charpentier pic

CANNES — Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to Laure Charpentier’s colorful drama “Gigola.”

Based on Charpentier’s novel, “Gigola” is set in Paris’ Pigalles neighborhood in the early 1960s. Pic toplines French thesp Lou Doillon as a young and free-spirited woman.

Repped by Loic Magneron’s Paris outfit Wide Management, “Gigola” has already been acquired for distribution in Canada, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, Germany, France, Switzerland and the U.K.

Pic stars a bevy of international thesps, including Eduardo Noriega, Rossy de Palma, Ana Padrao, Marisa Brenson, Marisa Paredes and Thierry Lhermitte.

Philadelphia-based Breaking Glass was founded in 2009 by two industry vets, Richard Wolff and Richard Ross.

Wide has had a stellar Cannes market so far, inking a string of deals on its key titles, and is finalizing major sales on Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb’s “This Is Not A Film.”
