Fontana series also airing on HBO Latin America
BERLIN — Sky Italia has become the latest major outlet to pick up Tom Fontana’s upcoming series “Borgia.”
Chronicling the infamous family’s rise to power and domination of the Vatican during the Renaissance, the E25 million ($36 million) series stars John Doman as patriarch Rodrigo Borgia, along with Stanley Weber, Mark Ryder and Isolda Dychauk.
“Borgia” has already sold to HBO Latin America, ZDF in Germany and ORF in Austria.
The series’ producers include Atlantique Production, EOS Entertainment, Canal Plus, which is airing it in France, and Etic Film.
Beta Film is handling world sales for the show.
Fontana’s series is one of two rival productions about the notorious clan. Neil Jordan’s take, “The Borgias,” starring Jeremy Irons, debuted Stateside on Showtime earlier this month.
