Shekhar Kapur, Danis Tanovic, Alex McDowell among guests
Directors Shekhar Kapur, Danis Tanovic and production designer Alex McDowell are among industryites attending the Berlin Film Festival’s Talent Campus.One of the educational platform’s topics will be “Filming War” and the challenges of making features and documentaries about the subject. Bosnian Tanovic, whose 2001 war drama “No Man’s Land” won the Oscar for foreign-language film, will join fellow helmers Samuel Maoz of Israel, who bagged the Golden Lion in Venice in 2009 for “Lebanon,” and Denmark’s Janus Metz, who won last year’s Critics’ Week Grand Prix in Cannes for his Afghanistan docu “Armadillo,” to discuss their experiences. Kapur and McDowell, who created the look of “Fight Club,” “Minority Report” and “Watchmen,” among other films, will talk about new digital tools and how they can be used to create cinematic universes in the panel “Play as Process: Worldbuilding and New Ways to Imagine.” Kapur and McDowell are members of the 5D Conference — an association of designers, scientists, artists, entertainment media reps and academics that come together to explore trends in designing for film and new media. The Berlinale runs Feb. 10-20.
