Savranskaia is that rare entertainment lawyer — a former documentary filmmaker who since graduating from law school in 2008 has applied her practical skills to her practice and all aspects of film and dealmaking.
“Traditionally we represent talent (A-list clients include Tom Cruise, Warren Beatty, Andie MacDowell and Larry King), but now a lot of people run production companies too, so we do both sides,” she says.
In the past 18 months she helped negotiate Philip Seymour Hoffman and his production company in agreements for “Moneyball” and “The Ides of March,” and worked on deals for James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment for the upcoming re-release of “Titanic” in 3D.
But true to her low-budget docu background, Savranskaia isn’t just focused on the big projects.
“My passion project is ‘The Story of Luke,’ ” she says, “a small indie film about this autistic kid, and I was thrilled to put together the deal for it.”
