Israeli pic in competition at Cannes
Sony Pictures Classics has snapped up North American and Latin American rights to Joseph Cedar’s competition entry “Footnote.”
Pic, which was bought from Blighty-based sales outfit and financier WestEnd Films in a pre-emptive bid to the pic’s official preem on Saturday, follows the rivalry between a father and his son, their need for each other and desire for respect and recognition in the world.
Deal was brokered by WestEnd and Cedar’s agents ICM.
“Footnote” marks the third deal between WestEnd and SPC — in the past, the distrib also bought Stephen Frears’ “Tamara Drewe” and Rodrigo Garcia’s “Mother and Child” from the sales outfit and financier.
