His Zircocine joins Tormenta, Maestranza on pic
France’s Ajoz Films has teamed with Spain’s Tormenta Films, Maestranza Films and Zircocine to produce adventure story and political thriller “Operacion E,” to be helmed by Miguel Courtois.
Spanish thesp Luis Tosar (“Miami Vice,” “Even the Rain”) will topline and co-produce via his Coruna-based Zircocine.
“It’s a fascinating character, a summary of all miseries to which the Colombian people are subjected,” Tosar told Variety.
Tormenta, Maestranza and Zircocine are covering 65% of “Operacion’s” €3.8 million ($5.1 million) budget.
Spanish pubcaster TVE and Gallic paybox Canal Plus are also backing “Operacion,” said producer Cristina Zumarraga at Tormenta Films.
Zumarraga took a line producer nod Sunday for Iciar Bollain’s “Even the Rain” at the Spanish Academy Goya film awards.
“‘Operacion’ is a moving story about a family struggling to remain together in a hostile, relentless environment,” Zumarraga said.
Principal photography starts summer in Colombia.
Courtois’ regular scribe Antonio Onetti co-wrote the script. Based on fact, “Operacion” chronicles the 2007 liberation of hostages Clara Rojas, her son Emmanuel, and Consuelo Gonzalez by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.
Courtois previously directed thrillers “El Lobo” and “GAL.”
