Jon Stewart would still be able to put on “The Daily Show” without Glenn Beck, but it wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining.
Lately, the Fox News/syndicated radio host keeps telling outrageous whoppers, and people keep calling him on it. It’s difficult to tell whether this is some kind of strategy or if Beck — under fire on various fronts — is completely losing his marbles, but few have been as hilarious about letting the air out of his balloon as Stewart.
Of course, it’s a snowballing process: The more reckless Beck becomes, the more attention he gets. And the more attention he gets, the more he’s convinced there’s a vast left-wing conspiracy designed to destroy him. Call it the Circle of Paranoia.
As for Fox, this again raises an interesting question: Yes, hosts are entitled to state their opinions, but should they be entitled to completely misrepresent the facts?
