Well, here’s a breath of fresh air.
In response to my earlier post blasting Aroma Home Green Frog Slippers for trying to cash in on the fact that Snooki of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” was seen wearing their product — while carrying a beer bong, no less — the company issued the following press release:
BERKELEY — With a bevy of today’s celebrities setting bad examples for children with irresponsible behavior involving drugs and alcohol, young people are finding themselves with a shortage of positive role models, and it shows. According to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, about 10.1 million Americans between ages 12-20 said they consume alcoholic beverages; this represents nearly 26% of this age group for whom alcohol consumption is illegal.
Aroma Home, a leading aromatherapy accessory company that is committed to providing high quality items that help make the home the haven of solace it’s intended to be, is encouraging families and communities to think twice about reckless and negligent activities that occur outside the home. With an astutely solid home foundation, the pressures of growing up and fitting in don’t have to result in dangerous conduct.
In its continuing commitment to make the home a sanctuary for serenity and calm, Aroma Home announced that the company will donate a portion of its revenue from sales of Fuzzy Friends Slippers to help eradicate drunk driving and underage drinking. Aroma
Home’s Fuzzy Friends Slippers have proven to be a favorite with celebrities as
of late, and have been spotted on cast members of widely-watched reality
television shows on MTV, Oxygen and Bravo.
OK, so they couldn’t resist throwing in a thinly veiled plug at the end (“As seen on MTV, Oxygen and Bravo!”), and I’m probably still not the target audience for goofy-looking green frog slippers. For starters, they would clash with my Green Lantern T-shirts.
It’s still nice to see someone recognize that there is such a thing as corporate responsibility in terms of who a company chooses to associate with its product.
Take that, Snooki!
