Duo to build sustainable homes in Green Build

Affordable housing and sound environmental practices can go hand in hand, judging from the efforts of the Producers Guild of America and the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. The two orgs returned to Lynwood, Calif., on November 6 to help build sustainable homes at the 2nd annual West Coast Green Build.

At the event, green-minded film, TV and new media producers donated their sweat equity to benefit the community and Habitat partner families with Lynwood’s first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified Green housing.

The build was funded through donations from PGA members and the homes are expected to be finished by January so families can move in.

PGA participated in the event through PGA Green, its sustainability initiative. PGA established its Green Committee in 2008 as part of the org’s commitment to actively encourage and support sustainability in the entertainment industry. It has created and maintains a reference website for greening productions, http://www.PGAgreen.org.

PGA Green is planning a build at another site next year.
