HBO drama to make debut on July 18

“The Wire” is coming to DirecTV.

HBO’s critically acclaimed series about drug-strewn streets of Baltimore, and how crime and the budget critics affects city government, schools and the media, will make its debut on July 18. All five seasons are set to air uncut and in high defintion.

Series comes from former Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon, who is currently showrunner on HBO’s New Orleans saga “Treme,” which launched Sunday night.

“The Wire” debuted in 2002 and stars Dominic West, Wendell Pierce, Clarke Peters and a deep roster of other thesps. Simon, Robert F. Colesberry and Nina Kostroff Noble exec produce.
