USA takes ‘Common’ approach

Cabler greenlights pilot from CBS Studios

USA Network is going forward with cop drama “Common Law” from CBS Television Studios.

Cabler greenlit the pilot on a cast-contingent basis. Order comes soon after USA greenlit pilots “Necessary Roughness” and “A Legal Mind.”

Cormac and Marianne Wibberley will write and exec produce with Jon Turtletaub.

Pilot examines two LAPD officers who were once good friends and now have a hard time dealing with each other. Their captain sends them to couples therapy to help them work out their issues.

“If you’re going to do a cop show, it better be something special, and we believe this one is,” said Jeff Wachtel, head of original programming for USA.

Junction Entertainment also produces.
