USA renews ‘Covert Affairs’

Freshman drama shining on Tuesdays

USA has renewed freshman drama “Covert Affairs” for a second season.

Starring Piper Perabo, “Covert” has been the top-rated cable show in its 10 p.m. Tuesday timeslot and ranks as 2010’s most-watched new cable program in 18-49. Series has often outperformed ABC and CBS in its timeslot in key demos.

In its sixth airing since its July 13 premiere, “Covert” hit program highs of 5.4 million viewers overall and 1.1 million in 18-34 this week.

Christopher Gorham, Peter Gallagher, Kari Matchett, Anne Dudek and Sendil Ramamurthy co-star. David Bartis, Doug Liman and James Parriott exec produce for Universal Cable Prods.

USA also confirmed that Perabo is being treated for a knee injury suffered on the show’s set Wednesday, adding that the actress is expected to make a full recovery. USA had no further information on how the program’s shooting schedule might be adjusted.
