For a summer Thursday, ABC had some nice news in the ratings — thanks to "Wipeout," the network topped CBS' "Big Brother" for the first time since August 2000, while "Rookie Blue" and "Boston Med" also gained viewers.
But as far viewers 18-49 go, the biggest audience on a balmy Thursday was for Univision's "Premios Juventud 2010," a sort of all-everything pop culture awards show with kudos in sports, film, music and so on. "Premios Juventud" averaged a 2.1 rating and 7 share in 18-49 from 8-11 p.m., better than any U.S. English-speaking network. In the final hour of primetime, "Premios" had more than twice as many 18-34 viewers as any other network.
Singing from a magic carpet, Shakira opened the Miami-based gala, which also featured appearances by and/or awards for performers including Enrique Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra, Pedro Fernandez and Pitbull, along with actresses Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez and athletes Lorena Ochoa and Alex Rodriguez.
