TV remembers Michael Jackson — and Animal Planet remembers Bubbles

As I wrote in Thursday’s paper, The King of Pop will once again rule the airwaves a week from Friday, the one-year anniversary of his untimely death.

News operations like ABC’s “20/20” and CNN have new Michael Jackson-themed specials lined up, while nets such as BET, TV Guide Network, E! and MTV all have plenty of programming to mark June 25 (and the days leading up to it).

Winner for most bizarre special, however, has to be Animal Planet. Yes, ANIMAL PLANET. The Discovery-owned cabler is getting into the act, producing the special “Michael Jackson & Bubbles: The Untold Story.”

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let that be as awesome as it sounds. Here’s how Animal Planet describes it: “A documentary about the close relationship between Michael Jackson and Bubbles, his pet chimp. Rarely seen footage of Michael with Bubbles, and his other pets. Interviews from his sister La Toya, and find out what happened to Bubbles nearly 20 years later.”
