Reality series about Hollywood salon Painted Nail
TV Guide Network is giving itself a mani pedi.
Cabler has greenlit reality skein “The Nail Files,” which chronicles the goings on at Hollywood salon the Painted Nail, operated by Katie Cazorla. In addition to covering the customers who come into the shop, series will also examine Cazorla’s relationship with music producer Walter Afanasieff.
Skein is the first docusoap ordered by TV Guide, which has previously focused on comedy series acquisitions and red carpet specials. Production on the six-episode series is set to begin in February with a mid-2011 launch.
“Nail Files” will be produced by 495 Prods., run by “Jersey Shore” producer Sally Ann Salsano.
“We wanted to be doing something with her,” said Diane Robina, exec VP of programming and marketing. “I know and trust she will make me a great show.”
TV Guide has long wanted to get into the celebrity-centered docusoap business that has been dominated by E! and Bravo. Formerly best known for offering a scroll of the daily TV listings, Lionsgate-owned TV Guide is targeting female auds who normally tune in to watch shows such as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and “The Real Housewives.”
“If you took E! and TV Land, and put them together, that’s who we are,” Robina told Daily Variety. “We want to have celebrities who are TV stars.”
