CW's 'Model' wraps on a high

On a Wednesday featuring repeats of some top shows, an original episode of CBS reality vet “Survivor” stood tallest and helped the net score a victory in demos. Fox and NBC shows were on the rise, and CW’s “America’s Next Top Model” hit a season high with its finale.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, “Survivor” dominated the 8 o’clock hour (3.6/10 in 18-49, 12.2 million viewers overall), up a tick vs. its most recent original episode. It was followed on CBS by a repeat of “Criminal Minds” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall), which was competitive with firstrun programming on other nets in all categories, and a special 10 p.m. telecast of the “Grammys Nominations Concert” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.1 million viewers overall), which came in down about 15% from last year when it had a stronger lead-in.

Fox moved up to second place behind “Human Target” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) and “Hell’s Kitchen” (2.6/7 in 18-49), up 14% and 18% respectively from their below-average scores last week on the eve of Thanksgiving. “Kitchen” cooked up a narrow 18-49 victory in the 9 o’clock hour .

At NBC, “Undercovers” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) was up a tick vs. its last original three weeks ago but still ran fifth in 18-49 among the English-language broadcast networks in the 8 o’clock hour. It was followed by “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.5/7 in 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall), which grew 17% from its most recent original and seemed to benefit from crime drama rival “Criminal Minds” airing in repeat. Also up at 10 p.m. was rookie “Law and Order: Los Angeles” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 9.1 million viewers overall), which led the broadcasters in all key categories.

ABC hung in there with repeats of “The Middle” (1.9/6 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall), “Better With You” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall), “Modern Family” (2.3/6 in 18-49, 7.0 million viewers overall) and “Cougar Town” (1.6/4 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall) but barely registered at 10 p.m. with the return of struggling first-year legal drama “The Whole Truth” (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall).

And at CW, “America’s Next Top Model” (1.5/4 in 18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall) hit season highs in all key categories and ranked second in the 8 o’clock hour among adults 18-34 (1.8/6); it was up a hefty 63% in adults 18-34 (1.8 vs. 1.1) and 32% in total viewers (3.3 million vs. 2.5 million) vs. its most recent elimination episode two weeks ago. Despite the gains in the opening hour, cheerleading drama “Hellcats” didn’t seem to benefit (0.8/2 in 18-49, 2.0 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 2.5/7; Fox, 2.1/6; NBC, 2.0/6; Univision, 1.7/5; ABC, 1.5/4; CW, 1.1/3.

In total viewers: CBS, 8.8 million; NBC, 7.7 million; Fox, 5.8 million; ABC, 5.1 million; Univision, 4.2 million; CW, 2.7 million.
