Friday’s “Stand Up to Cancer” telethon has raised more than $80 million in pledges to fund medical research and treatments for the disease.
The one-hour spesh aired commercial free at 8 pm across the Big Four nets, HBO, Showtime and nine other cablers. About 18.3 million viewers watched some portion of the telethon, which featured numerous celebs and Big Three news anchors Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams.
The first “Stand Up” telethon in 2008 raised aboit $100 million. This year’s spesh is still available for web streaming via the Stand Up to Cancer website, and donations are still being collected via telephone and online.
The fundraising effort is spearheaded by the Entertainment Industry Coalition and other orgs. Laura Ziskin exec produced the telecast.
