New print, digital comicbook also set for animated TV series

Stan Lee’s Pow Entertainment has teamed with Andy Heyward’s A Squared Entertainment and Archie Comics to create a line of print and digital comicbooks that will also be adapted as an animated TV skein.

Lee will be featured as a regular character in the comicbook and TV series dubbed “Super Seven.” The storyline revolves around seven alien superheroes who find themselves stranded on Earth and befriended by Lee, the legendary co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, among other Marvel Comics mainstays.

“Although I’ve briefly appeared in other comics, ‘Super Seven’ is the first time that I’ll actually be a continuing character in a far-out, original superhero series,” Lee said.

The TV series produced by A Squared and Pow will be shopped to buyers for a fall debut.

Separately, A Squared on Monday unveiled a partnership with Build-A-Bear Workshop to develop entertainment properties and licensed merchandise based on the retail stores where tykes are able to design and dress custom teddy bears. Heyward, former head of kidvid titan DIC Entertainment, launched the A Squared banner last year (Daily Variety, July 24).
