More summer theatrical releases have found a network TV home. No surprise here: Keeping it in the family, ABC Family has picked up the rights to the Disney releases “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.”
Also, as is tradition with Disney animated fare, Disney Channel has the network deal for “Toy Story 3.”
“Prince of Persia,” which opened May 28, grossed $89 million, while “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” which was released July 14, has brought in $29 million so far.
It’s been a busy last few weeks for theatrical acquisitions at the cablers. Turner landed a big Warner Bros. package that includes “Inception” and “Sex and the City 2,” while FX scored the rights to “Salt” and “Predators.”
