Nuno Bernardo’s Lisbon-based BeActive, creator of international Web/TV hit “Sofia’s Diary,” has taken an equity investment in Dublin’s CR Entertainment, a TV and multimedia production company.
Investment, announced the week before Monday’s start of Mip TV mart in Cannes, is believed to be in the mid-six-figure range.
Coin gives BeActive a minority stake in Dublin-based CR, part of Irish film-TV production house Campbell Ryan Prods., and links two of Europe’s most prominent indie multiplatform production houses. BeActive’s investment will be matched by coin from Enterprise Ireland, the Irish government’s business development agency. The investment will fuel CR’s project development.
“Multiplatform and Web-only production slowed in 2009 because of the recession, as most of these shows were backed by sponsorship, advertising and product placement,” BeActive managing director, Bernardo told Daily Variety. “As the economy comes back, we are working on a portfolio of new cross-media properties ready to attract possible sponsors and distributors.”
Pact also allows the partners multiple co-production options: BeActive has a Brazilian arm, which it used to produce thriller “Final Punishment,” seen on Brazil’s cable satellite channel Oi TV.
