“Nightline” co-anchor and reporter Martin Bashir is heading to MSNBC.
Bashir will leave ABC and head to the NBC Universal news cabler where he will have his own afternoon talkshow starting in September. He will also do some longform reporting for the Peacock on its other news programs.
Bill Weir, currently the co-host of the weekend edition of “Good Morning America,” will replace Bashir on “Nightline,” joining co-anchors Terry Moran and Cynthia McFadden.
In an email to his staff, ABC News president David Westin said: “Martin has been an important part of the successful ‘Nightline’ effort. All of us owe him a debt of gratitude for his many contributions to ABC News during his six years here, and I know that all of us wish him well.”
