NBC abbreviates new singing show’s title


NBC’s “The Voice of America,” based on the Dutch format “The Voice of Holland,” is now going by the shortened title “The Voice.”

“The Voice” is still just a working title and could very well change. But decision to shorten the name was likely to avoid any confusion (or copyright infringement) with the real-life Voice of America, which continues to broadcast programming around the globe.

NBC’s The Voice website is up, touting auditions that had already been scheduled — under the vague “Untitled Mark Burnett Singing Competition” name. Here’s where the show will be looking for a few good voices:
