NBA Finals trending upward for ABC


Hoops Thursday’s Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics was the most-watched non-Olympic summer telecast since 2008’s Game 6 between the same two teams.

With the Celtics winning to even the best-of-seven series at 2-2, ABC is guaranteed at least two more broadcasts that should draw even higher numbers.Game 5 of the series is Sunday, with Game 6 on Tuesday and a possible Game 7 Thursday.

Game 4 drew a 6.6 rating and 21 share among those 18-49 and 16.4 million viewers overall. It also the highest-rated Game 4 of an NBA Finals in six years.

This year’s series is averaging 1.1 million more viewers than last year’s did through Game 4, with gains of 7% in the demo.
