Not only is the draft Thursday but the league announced the schedule for the upcoming season this afternoon, and the NBC is already salivating. The Peacock will air the first game when the Minnesota Vikings travel to meet the Super Bowl champs New Orleans Saints at the Superdome. As is tradition the last few years, the inaugural contest is a Thursday night and will be held Sept. 9.
Also on the first weekend, NFL fans are treated to two Monday night games on ESPN: This year the New York Jets will open their new stadium against the Baltimore Ravens — though the Giants officially play the first regular season game there the day before when the take on the Panthers — and later that night Kansas City hosts the Chargers.
Other attractive Monday Night Football games on the sked include the Giants at Dallas Oct. 25; the Eagles at the Donovan McNabb-led Redskins on Nov. 15; Jets at Patriots Dec. 6.
Highlights of NBC’s Sunday night package include Vikings at Packers, Oct. 24; Patriots at Steelers, Nov. 14; and Chargers at Colts, Nov. 28.
