Lakers-Celtics rematch shows ratings bump

Lakers The latest chapter of the decades-long battle between the Lakers and Celtics has kicked off with more slightly more viewer interest than the last battle two years ago.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals between Boston and Los Angeles scored a 5.7 rating and 18 share among adults 18-49, along with 14.1 million viewers overall.
When the teams met in 2008, almost exactly two years ago to the day (and also on a Thursday), Game 1 came in at 5.4/17, 13.4 million.

The 2009 NBA Finals between Orlando and the Lakers drew a 5.4/16, 13.0 million.

and Boston’s Paul Pierce, a mere 27 seconds into the game, probably
helped keep viewers hooked in a game the Lakers’ led by 20 at the end of
three quarters before closing it out, 102-89.

Thursday’s broadcast registered a 25.3 rating and 43 share in Los Angeles
households, 19.1/34 in Boston.
