Laff fest logs lineup

SF Sketchfest runs Jan. 13-Feb. 5

Dan Aykroyd, Garry Shandling, Candice Bergen, James L. Brooks, Cloris Leachman, Maya Rudolph and Fred Willard will be bringing the funny to the 10th anniversary of the SF Sketchfest: The San Francisco Comedy Festival, running Jan. 13-Feb. 5.

The three-week-plus affair will unfold over nine venues in San Francisco, with tributes to “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show” on its 25th anniversary (Jan. 20); “Murphy Brown,” with Bergen and creator Diane English (Feb. 2); and “Airplane!” with Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker (Jan. 31).

Brooks will received the third annual SF Sketchfest comedy writing award on a date yet to be determined.

The festival will close at the Castro Theater with “Idol Worship: An Evening With Cloris Leachman,” which will include a screening of Mel Brooks’ “High Anxiety,” as well as a 25th anni screening of “True Stories,” with an onstage appearance by director-writer-composer-star David Byrne.

Other presentations will include the Upright Citizens Brigade, which will kick things off Jan. 13, as well as the improv talents behind “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (Jan. 29).

Also, the early years of “Saturday Night Live” will be discussed by such original cast members as Aykroyd and Laraine Newman, writer Tom Davis and other invited guests on Jan. 30.
