Kinetic makes friends with Nerd

Banners to develop TV projects together

Production/distribution shingle Kinetic Content has sealed a production partnership with the company from “Survivor” creator Charlie Parsons.

Under the alliance, Kinetic will get U.S. rights to formats created by New Entertainment Research and Design — yes, that’s abbreviated as “NERD” — and the two companies will also co-develop projects together out of Kinetic’s West Coast home.

Deal reps the latest international partnership for Kinetic, which has also sealed deals with U.K.’s Channel 4 and STV, as well as STV Prods. (“Taggart”) and Dutch company Absolutely Independent (“Find My Family”).

Parsons is chairman ofNerd, which was founded by Jago Lee and John Farrar. Lee and Farrar have run production and development at UK shops such as Talkback Thames, Tiger Aspect, Diverse and Optomen, while Parsons founded U.K. producers Planet 24 (“The Big Breakfast”).

“Nerd has an extraordinarily distinctive and commercial point of view backed up by Jago’s, John’s and Charlie’s track records,” said Kinetic’s Chris Coelen.

Kinetic and Nerd are planning their first joint format production at this fall’s Mipcom confab.
